Pontoon Booze Cruise

Macal River, Belize

After yet another delicious breakfast, we loaded up both cars and made way to Martz Farms where we would board a pontoon for the day. The 'kind hearted' Renault had some problems with the rough roads on Martz Farms, but after some TLC it made it. We were pretty sure at this point that the part of the drivetrain the puts power to the back wheels was broken, so really I have been driving a front wheel drive car through these '4 wheel drive required' roads like a boss. After meeting Dennis (our pontoon captain and guide) and kicking off the dock, we went on a beautiful trip down the Macal river. At the waterfall that Katie and I had canoed to the day before, we anchored and swam a bit before enjoying a barbecue chicken lunch. On the way to another waterfall we saw some baby crocodiles (WHERES MOMMA??? I WAS JUST SWIMMING IN THESE WATERS) and a few iguanas. Our last stop on the trip was to a trail that lead to another beautiful waterfall and swimming spot. The trail was a little rough (More so because most of us were a little tipsy...) and several of us got banged up a bit. After we returned to the cars, we had the task of getting out of Martz farms. I quickly learned that I was going to need to keep up some momentum since the roads were sandy and wet. With the courage of a few beers, I powered through the tricky road. All in all we had a great time and were pretty much ready for bed when we got back to the lodge.
