Relentless Rain

Wellington, New Zealand - Day 6

Three years ago Katie and I flew off to Europe for our honeymoon. The dates of our trip were set because of the our wedding day, we had a miraculous week of pure sunshine in Ireland which the locals couldn't believe. Thailand trip dates were set around Desiree and Kanin's wedding, beautiful weather all around. When planning for New Zealand I read that March is a great weather month, full of warm sunshine and clear skies, but unfortunately for the last few days it had been torrential rain and cold winds. The irony...oh the irony.

Donning our rain coats, Katie and I packed our little car to the brim and headed to the airport. Car return went without any issue. I think Budget is my favorite car rental company, they are pretty straight forward with price (contrary to Hertz in Mexico where online estimate was $28 and final bill $320...) and you don't feel like you are in trouble when you return the car. The flight was just a quick 40 minutes and before we new it, we were dropped off in front of our next AirBnB. The place is adorable and decorated with a style that Katie loved. Which was good, because the Auckland rain followed us to Wellington. Braving the weather we went and had lunch at "Pizzaria Napoli" and shared an delectable pizza. It was choice (bit of Kiwi slang there, instead of cool or awesome New Zealanders say 'choice' or 'sweet as').

Trying to get out of the weather, we went to Te Papa. Te Papa is another world class museum and its exhibits ran the spectrum from bugs and animals, to Maori artifacts. With the afternoon burnt up at the museum, we went back out in search of dinner. I found a southwest Asia themed restaurant named "Monsoon Poon" (they had a social media campaign going on to tag your pictures with #PoonPics to enter a contest...totally serious). The place was really interestingly decorated inside with large buddha's and regional trinkets, and the kitchen was open to the dining room. Katie ordered a lamb curry with garlic naan and I got firecracker chicken and rice. Best meal so far, the firecracker chicken was so amazingly delicious.
