Kiwi Dinner Party
Auckland, New Zealand - Day 6
A couple months ago Katie's friend Piaf (who she works in the OR with) found out we were planning a New Zealand trip and got us in touch with her sister Jan who lives in Auckland! The four of us chatted online and decided to meet up and get breakfast while we were in her neck of the woods. Jan, Katie, and I had a great chat and a tasty breakfast on the North Shore of Auckland where Jan grew up. We parted ways, but Jan very generously invited us to her home for dinner that night. With a plan to meet up later, we headed over to Devonport to get another view of Auckland harbor and explore the shops. The rain held off for a bit while Katie enjoyed a cup of coffee, and we walked along the coast. Once the rain decided to pick up we headed to Auckland museum, which was top notch (and indoors). Katie and I particularly liked the Maori exhibit. Nearly out of time, we rushed back to our AirBnB to meet Jan. It was basically pouring rain and the city traffic was very heavy at this point so we were quite grateful that Jan had offered to pick us up. We were also happy to get to meet Jan's husband, Rico. It was so much fun getting to spend the evening with some native Kiwis! Dinner was a delicious lamb roast, cabbage, and kumara (the Maori word for sweet potatoes). It was all delicious and a very welcome home cooked meal. It was a wonderful night of great conversation, tasty food, and kiwi beer.
