Exploring Bangkok
Bangkok, Thailand - Day 12
With much anxiety and anticipation, we ventured forth into the bowls of the great city. As our elevator plummeted downward from the great heights of the 58th floor we held our heads high, though inside we trembled. The lady traveler and I exited out of our grand hotel and entered the overwhelming chaos that is the streets of Bangkok...
I hailed a metered taxi and instructed the driver to head towards the Grand Palace and off we went! We made a short pit stop at a custom tailor to discuss tailoring me a new suit (We didn't ask to, but the driver took us there and told us just to look around for five minutes, how thoughtful!). Soon we were at our desired location and soon after that we had a desire to leave. The buildings were breathtaking and there was a lot we wanted to see (the Emerald Buddha!), but it was 500 baht a piece, hot, and filled to the brim with people. We opted to walk around the courtyard a bit and then walk to Wat Pho. There we paid a smaller admission and saw the lounging Buddha. We explored Bangkok for the rest of the day and saw Wat Arun, the Flower Market, Starbucks, Chinatown, and Jim Thompson's house. For dinner we found a restaurant named Ban Chiang which was circled in an old travel guide that Bill and Annette gave us. It was a cool place that felt secluded and laid back for being on Bangkok. Food was great too.
