Return from Mexico

Cancun, Mexico - Day 4

Our alarm went off way too early this morning. I think it took me about ten minutes to get up to shut the darn thing off. Sadly, today was the last day of our trip. We got dressed and finished packing our bags before heading down and grabbing some breakfast. This will conclude all that went "smoothly" today. Here is a list of things that sucked:

  • We were one of the first people down and told to drop off our bags in the lobby and wait for the bus, but when the bus came they wanted to make sure bags and their owners were put on the same bus (which is smart) so we went back inside to realize we were now at the back of the line

  • After getting our boarding passes we realized we had about an hour before our flight was to board, so we went and got a Starbucks coffee. Got through the line quickly, but then waited OVER THIRTY MINUTES TO GET OUR COFFEE. This forced us to suck it down ASAP to go through security.

  • Made it to our terminal and the boarding time came and went. We were then told that the flight was actually two hours later.

  • Boarded the plane, but it was delayed for about twenty more minutes as they checked something.

  • We made it to New Orleans to go through customs. This basically consisted of a long hallway we could not leave. They had two small bathrooms and told everyone to go if they needed it. We waited in line for about thirty minutes for that then made it through customs (where I learned that a "very bad boy" shares my name), picked up our bag and carried it 10 feet to give it back to baggage handlers. After that was said and done, we walked back through the hallway and waited to get back to our plane. Electronics are forbidden in this whole area and people kept getting threatened that their phones would be taken away. In this lovely hallway with maybe 15 chairs total, we would spend the next hour and a half.

  • Finally back on the plane, we are delayed for thirty more minutes as Forbes Airfield would not accept us yet.

  • After the plane touched down we ran to baggage pickup and waited twenty minutes for the bags to make it off the plane.

Sheesh. This all made a three hour flight (if we were to go to MCI for customs) into a nearly nine hour suckfest.
