Penguins at Boulders Beach

Cape Town, South Africa - Day 20

Boulders Beach

On the way south from Cape Town, we stopped by Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town. In addition to a beautiful beach partially shielded by large granite boulders, it has also been home to an African penguin colony since 1982 when four birds decided to make it their new home. From those two sets of breeding penguins, the colony is up to around 3,000 today. A boardwalk allows you to walk right next to the colony. We enjoyed watching some birds lounge, some running into the water, and others coming out.

Cape Point

From Boulders Beach, we made our journey to Cape Point where we explored the beautiful coast and had some lunch at the Cape Point Restaurant.
