Puttering Around San Pedro
San Pedro, Belize
I woke up early and watched the sun rise off the coast of Ambergris Caye. We embraced 'island time' and leisurely got ready for the day. When we did end up hitting the road, our crew loaded up on the golf carts and headed into town with the only goal of paying for the carts. There is one bridge that separates San Pedro proper and northern Ambergris Caye and we soon found out that the local city council has a $5 Belizean Dollar (A Belizean Dollar is locked to $.50 US Dollar by the way) toll for crossing the bridge. Both carts bought round trip tickets. We actually ended up using ours several times and never had to pay again. Or you could use Bill's method and just not stop. (While this somehow worked for him we make no guarantee that you will not end up in Belizean jail for refusing to pay a toll)San Pedro has three main roads, one one-way north bound (Co-co-nut DRIVE), one one-way south bound, and one two-way road. Right off the main square sits J and H, the golf cart rental company we used. After paying for the carts we all grabbed lunch at Elvi's before splitting off and going our own way. Katie, Jenna, Douglas, and myself aimlessly drove south to explore the island. On the way we found a craft store and a small open air market. Katie and I spent the remainder of the afternoon back at the house in the pool, listening to the waves crash and watching the palm trees sway.
