To the Mountains
Queenstown, New Zealand - Day 8
Oh Wellington. Wish we had met on better terms, but we enjoyed the time we did share together. It was starting to drizzle when our car arrived to take us to the airport. After another short flight, little over an hour, Katie and I made it to Queenstown. Not much to see on the way in as clouds hid the mountains from us, but in a way that just made us more anxious for them to burn off and reveal the beauty behind. I had received word from my sister Roxanne the night before, and a text from my father on the way to town about my grandpa Don. He's not doing too well and it sounds like he was back in the hospital. After he is released, he will go on hospice care. It's a terrible feeling being so far away while this is going on and it makes me miss all my grandparents even more. I find a little comfort looking up at The Remarkables mountain range that surrounds Queenstown, and knowing grandpa would like the sight of them. I hope grandpa Don is comfy right now and my little grandma Norma is doing alright. They will both be in my thoughts.
Our hotel is right downtown, so we went and explored the sights and shops before checking in with our hiking company for a pre-hike briefing. This hike will be different than any other hike we have ever done because every night we stay in a hotel of sorts and are catered to. Katie and I will be starting our four day trek through Milford Sound tomorrow morning and probably wont be able to post about it until it is all over.
