Exhaustion in Naples

Naples, Italy - Day 20

I came to the realization earlier today that this is the second to last day of our honeymoon. Our epic journey is about to come to an end. We have seen castles, natural wonders, climbed a mountain, eaten a lot of delicious food, traveled over 1,000 miles in one day on a train, explored historic places, and awed at a world wonder. This all coming to a crescendo of exhaustion in Naples. We had planned to explore Pompeii and hike mount Vezuvius. But we didn't do that. We opted to sleep in till 1:30pm instead. I begrudgingly and sickly fell out of bed and we explored Naples a bit. It was definitely an experience completely different from anything we have done. It has seemed like the other countries we have visited have been lax on their traffic rules and laws, but here people just do what they want. Motorcycle or Moped on the side walk? No problem. Driving down a narrow street lined with outside shops and packed with pedestrians? That's fine, just honk! There doesn't even seem to be the concept of 'lanes' here either. We ate a pizza that I wasn't too impressed with. I mean, pizza is suppose to be amazing here right?? Katie liked it though. And not only is there no ice, but everywhere we have been only serves bottled water! Katie wasn't enjoying the shopping so we made our way back to the hotel. We relaxed for a bit before deciding to try to make it to the coast. I think we have been spoiled a bit with 'fishermen's wharves' in the UK and California...because this was an even worse part of town than before! At least there were tourists in the other part. We retreated in defeat and got some take away for dinner. We ate in our hotel room where we had tap water. Endless tap water and enjoyed it very much. Speaking of which...a bit of a tangent, but are all Europeans severely dehydrated? Katie and I drink a ton of water (to the detest of all of our waiters/waitresses) and we still don't drink the recommended amount. These Europeans are eating all these chips and salty foods and drink beer all day! Anyway, end of tangent. Katie is working on our travel journal and I am writing these posts to prove that we are in fact, not dead.
