Preparing for the Amazon

Manaus, Brazil - Day 3

Today's major event was traveling north to Manaus, Brazil where we kick off our Amazon Jungle excursion. Katie and I really only got to explore around our hotel before we grabbed dinner. Since there is not much to really write about today, I figured I would write up some notes on some things we have encountered.

  • Empanadas: I love them. Pretty much any meat wrapped in bread of any kind I love.

  • Electric shower heads: No hot water heaters; the two places we have stayed at so far have both had electric shower heads. We kept popping the breaker with the first one. Better the breaker than...us!

  • No one speaks English: This we knew going in and we are doing a great job getting by. We basically learn pleasantries and people tend to give us a break. Obrigado!

  • Can't flush toilet paper down the toilet: Self explanatory.

  • Crazy traffic: There doesn't seem to be that many traffic laws...or rules...or guidelines.

  • Army guys with machine guns: This doesn't bother me at all, it's actually a welcome sight because you know it's a safe area.

Not sure what our internet situation will be in the Amazon...but I am assuming it wont be great. I'll catch the blog up after we get back into civilization if I can't upload.
