Travel to Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, Thailand - Day 3

Even though we had gone to bed after midnight, Katie and I both woke up at about 6:30am worried we were going to oversleep. We took the opportunity to get a bit of a head start on the day and took the 8:40am shuttle from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airport to Don Muang (DMK), which ended up taking about an hour and a half. It took us a few minutes to get a grasp of DMK's layout, but everyone is very friendly and seems to know enough English to answer simple questions. After getting all the way through baggage check and security, we found ourselves in American fast food heaven. McDonald's, two Burger Kings (really, there were two BK's just about 100 feet apart), a KFC, and a Subway. We opted to dine at a not so familiar place called 'Bakers Talk.' We had several tasty buns and rolls, savory and sweet. We enjoyed a bit more of our new favorite past time, Asian baby watching, while we waited to board. The flight to Chiang Mai was short and uneventful. We took a taxi from the airport to Amora Tapae hotel, which right outside of the old city. We took a short walk around our hotel and found tons of shops, restaurants (two of which were Loco Elvis and Burger Elvis), a couple temples, some monks, and our first Thai market.  Now we head to bed and get a full night sleep before our first full day of exploring Chiang Mai.

Things that surprised me today:

For all the traffic, there is very little honking!

There are LOTS of Mexican restaurants in Chiang Mai
